Urban You Launches In Perth

The on-demand app that tackles cleaning services like those provided by has recently just launched in Perth, with residents in the area now able to book a cleaner or gardener in less than a minute via an on-demand app.

Much like the popular on-demand transport app, Uber, Urban You lets cleaners register to their service and choose which jobs they’d like to take on, while the customers can choose the date and time that they’d like the cleaner to come in, and then book and pay through the app. The app has strict standards, with cleaners falling below four stars in customer ratings prohibited from working for the booking platform.

Urban You will be joining the ranks of similar on-demand platforms currently operating in the AU, like Airtasker and Deliveroo, which lets Aussies outsource their daily chores.

Urban You was co-founded by Elke Keeley and her business partner, Noga Edelstein, who launched the service after they experienced difficulty in finding reliable home services due to being busy corporate executives.

She says that customers don’t need to arrange the time to get a quote for their request, which means that they also don’t have to find the money to leave out for the day of the cleaning. She reports that they run background checks on everyone, run checks on their insurance, police checks, as well as service testing for quality control.

Customers using the app choose what the size of the property they need cleaned, the level of cleaning that they want, and how often they would like to have the service handled, after which Urban You will provide them with a quote. For example, a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment cleaned in a fortnight would cost about $87.50.

Ms. Keeley and Ms. Edelstein first launched Urban You back in 2014, in Sydney and Melbourne, and, in the past couple of months, have expanded to cover Adelaide, Gold Coast and Brisbane.

Unlike Uber, which took backlash from the taxi industry, Keeley says that the Urban You model allowed individual cleaners and smaller scale operators like to expand their businesses through the platform. The vetting process was tough, she says, with only 10% of applicants meeting getting on the app, but, following that, all received and an agreed flat rate and are guaranteed payment.

About 30 cleaners have signed up for Urban You’s Perth operations, with Keeley saying that they will work on increasing it overtime to keep up with demand.
